Where did all the three album titles come from?
All from rather obscure Art movements, Blast from The Vorticists , Dreams That Money Can't Buy was inspired by the surrealist film Dreams That Money Can't Buy and Soulstream was a reference or quote from a film about the poetess , played by Glenda Jackson I think.
How did you come to work with Dan Hartman and Nick Bagnall?
Through a man at MCA records who's name I blotted out of my memory
How did you come to work with Ryuichi Sakamoto on Love & Hate?
That came about through Bob Johnson, the first manager of Frankie Goes To Hollywood Roddy Frame who Bob Managed was a friend of Ryuichi.
How did Kirsty MacColl come to work on Boyfriend '65'?
Oh I had wanted to do the song as a duet with her as far back as 1984, But Island Records and then MCA wouldn't allow it for some reason, so I asked her to do it as a BV when I finally got round to recording it properly.
How did the track Natural come along which appeared on some Japanese editions of Americanos?
That came via MCA who wanted to expose me to a wider public in Japan, and promote the BLAST album Natural, was actually a soundtrack for a TV advert for Mitsubishi Corporation
What would you regard as your finest moment in terms of your solo career?
Well I guess Blast debuting at Number 1 in the UK Chart was a big deal at the time. Although that's one of those things that is out of your control , there have been a few moments that I remember fondly, performing Legendary Children with Helen Terry at my first Gay Pride event in London, Singing The Power Of Love live on Later, (Jools Holland's BBC TV Show ) and Performing Ferry Across The Mersey with the Lightening Seeds at Anfield Football ground, and earlier singing on a version of that song with Paul McCartney , Gerry Marsden and The Christian for the Hillsborough Justice Fund and the relatives of those who died in that sad event.
